British Sign Language Assembly Focus

On Thursday 16th June, we were joined by three very special visitors: Saed, Peter and Alice. They came into school to lead a wonderful assembly on how important British sign language is to people. Saed is deaf and he grew up in Iran. He talked to us about his educational barriers, having attended a school for deaf children at first but then later moved into a mainstream high school where he no longer had access to sign language. Peter interpreted for Saed, who told us about his challenges and how this affected his learning. Alice interpreted for Saed, whilst Peter explained to us all what Saed was communicating through his amazing sign language. The assembly finished by Peter reading the book, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', teaching us the signs for the story. Saed showed us the signs too. What an inspiring experience for us all. Thank you so much to Peter, Alice and Saed for coming in to help us see the world through the eyes of a deaf person. We were so inspired!
