At Seaton Sluice First School, we value the impact of high quality play and recognise the many benefits! Not only is play an essential part of a child's learning, but it can significantly boost mental and physical health and well-being. We are both excited and proud to have started our journey towards becoming an OPAL school- a school that is built upon a foundation of high quality outdoor play and learning.

How many other schools can say that they have a beautiful sea view, a magnificent school site with a range of different areas such as 'Time for Me' mindful area, the wonderful willow tunnel and 'Share me a Story' storytelling enclosure? We are constantly developing the quality of our outdoor play for everyone to benefit from whilst also having a whole load of fun!

Spending quality, regular time outdoors keeps us fit and physically healthy. It enables us to run, jump, climb and chase, developing good fitness as well as enhancing critical development such as core stability, bone density and muscle tone.

Our beautiful outdoor space also provides endless opportunities to practice empathy and develop a clearer understanding of others. Outside is the perfect place to make friendships, develop social and emotional skills and engage in group activities including problem solving.

Finally, spending time playing outdoors with others allows children to connect with nature and explore their natural environment and the amazing world around them. By the way...we really can't pretend that this has 'just happened'! Our beautiful grounds are lovingly maintained and developed by our very special, talented and extremely committed groundsman, Mr Bayles. We are VERY lucky!
