Remarkable Reading Results at SSFS!
At Seaton Sluice First School, we prioritise time across every school day to deliver our fantastic phonics scheme called 'Little Wandle'. The journey begins in Nursery and continues through to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The phonics sessions are fun and children have the opportunity to practise and apply their knowledge on a daily basis both in and out of school.
We are always extremely proud of our pupils and couldn't achieve the progress that we make without the whole team effort: amazing staff, enthusiastic children and also supportive families. However, this year, the end of year outcomes have been phenomenal!
In Reception, 97% of the year group achieved the early learning goal for reading (compared to the National Average of 77%). In Year 1, 93% of the year group achieved the pass threshold for the statutory phonics screening test. This compares to the National Average of 80%. These results are particularly impressive and testament to the brilliant teaching and learning that takes consistently takes place. A huge well done to everyone- you are superstars!
